This does exactly what it's supposed to do. It gets wicked hot and burns anything you point it towards. You can't be careless or you'll end up with a charred lawn. It is super easy to light, not too heavy to carry for an extended period of time and makes getting rid of weeds rather fun.
To avoid having to spend 5 minutes and lots of propane on each individual weed, you need to pull off as many leaves as possible, then incinerate what's left. It's particularly good for those pesky weeds that grow up between sidwalk slabs and paving stones.
The tool is very simple to use; screw a camp stove propane bottle on the end and push the button and your ready to go. It is fun to use and I had to come out of a trance and stop burning every weed I saw because I also burned spots in my grass. It has worked well so far for burning out the grass between the rocks of my raised garden bed. There isn't much to say because it is a simple tool that is easy to use and does its' job. Although I knew burning was a short term solution there was too much satisfaction in watching them curl and die. I look forward to the winter to see what spots I will "need" to melt.
Environmental concerns aside, the Bernzomatic 19425 JT850 works AT LEAST as well as pulling weeds. No risk of fire-starting there so you can really nuke everything in sight. As a bonus, I discovered a yellowjackets nest by one of our fence gates (they all flew out as I walked through). But this thing saves my back, keeps me away from the poison ivy, and makes weed removal fun. This unit is well designed, light, simple to use, inexpensive and effective. Can't say that about pulling them. Some weeds will come back, no doubt, whether pulling or burning. I agree with other reviewers that it takes some time to destroy larger, deep-rooted weeds, but this thing's so fun and easy to use I don't mind if some come back for more in a few weeks.
I blasted my entire one-acre property in 45 minutes with one small canister of LPG (there's still some left, actually). It works particulary well in stone-lined beds around our shed, in our culvert, and in drainage areas. A few seconds with the torch = no more yellowjackets. What else could you ask for.
Works as advertised. Very happy with results. Hint, spray with a weed killer first to dry out the weeds, then use the torch to avoid the back breaking weeding.
